Abstract
The present study to formulate and evaluate of gastro retentive floating tablets Verapamil to retard the drug release in 12hrs. The formulations were prepared by using various polymers like HPMC K15M, Xanthan gum and Ethyl cellulose floating dosage forms by direct compression method. The % drug release of Verapamil was compared with all the formulations V2 is the best with HPMC K15M was selected as optimized formulation based on drug release data and kinetic study. The order and mechanism of drug release data of V2 were identified as zero order and Higuchi mechanism whereas the drug release behavior was fitted to korsmeyer – peppas model. The floating tablets of Verapamil using HPMC K15M was successfully formulated as an approach to increase to increase gastric residence time and there by improving its bioavailability.
